Abstract

Introduction:  Breast cancer is one of the most common and lethal malignant neoplasms in Peru and around the world. The primary goal of the study is to provide an epidemiological profile of breast cancer in the International Clinic of Lima MetropolitanA (ICLM) between 2016 and 2021. Material  and  methods:  The  study  was  descriptive,  retrospective, and non-comparative. The database was compiled using data from the Breast Diagnosis Unit, Clinical Pathology samples, and a list of patients with breast cancer who were treated between 2016 and 2021. All frequencies and  averages  linked  to  the  variables  analyzed  were  calculated  using  Microsoft  Excel  (V.16.0). Results: Between 2016 and 2020, 360 patients with de novo breast cancer were chosen from the ICLM (47.24 %). The average age was 51.31 years (range 26-101). Patients aged 45 made approximately 32% of the entire group. 56 patients (16 %) had ductal carcinoma in situ and 304 had infiltrating breast cancer (84 %). 75% had early breast cancer (clinical stage I and II). The molecular types were luminal (77%), HER2 (13 %), and triple negative (10 %). Surgery was the predominant treatment (57 %) with a comparable proportion of mastectomies and lumpectomies; 40 % underwent neoadjuvant treatment (chemotherapy in 89 % and hormone therapy in 11 %). The time from diagnosis and primary therapy was 43.25 days. Conclusions: Between 2016 and 2021, the population with breast cancer in the ICLM was young, with a high proportion of early cancer and a substantial representation of luminal molecular type B. Based on the proportion of lumpectomies and neoadjuvant therapy, treatment tended to be more conservative.
