Venous thromboembolic disease, made up of pulmonary thromboembolism and/or deep vein thrombosis, currently is an important public health problem due to its high incidence, morbidity and mortality and the high health costs it entails. Most of the deaths and serious consequences of pulmonary thromboembolism occur due to obstructive shock, therefore, it constitutes a medical emergency. The patient’s prognosis depends on timely diagnosis and treatment. We present the case of a 62-year- old patient who suffered a massive pulmonary thromboembolism, who was iniatilly treated in the Emergency Department and who, thanks to the rapid response and the information obtained by the echocardiography, targeted treatment could be administered, the result of which was a favorable evolution of the patient.
