Introduction: Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of tamsulosin in the elimination of distal ureteral stones smaller than
10mm compared to conventional treatment. Methods: This is a quantitative, observational, analytical, longitudinal, and
retrospective study conducted in a private clinic in Lima from 2021 to 2023. The study included patients over 18 years old
with a CT diagnosis of distal ureteral stones measuring 10mm or less, who had received treatment with 0.4mg of tamsulosin
for 2 weeks or anti-inflammatory treatment for at least 1 week. Results: Fifty-eight patients were included in the study, with
29 treated with tamsulosin and 29 treated with anti-inflammatory drugs. No statistically significant differences were found
in the percentage of stones eliminated between the two groups (p=0.58), nor in the expulsion time (p=0.35). There were
no differences between the groups in terms of stone elimination based on size (p>0.05). Conclusions: Tamsulosin is not
effective in eliminating distal ureteral stones, nor does it reduce the expulsion time compared to conventional treatment.
