Purpose: To verify the effectiveness of crosslinking in the treatment of corneal ectasia secondary to refractive surgery. Method: Descriptive, quantitative, observational, retrospective and single cohort study in 15 eyes with corneal ectasia secondary to LASIK, where pre and postsurgical keratometry, pachymetry and axis of the corneal cylinder were studied. The comparison of the variables was carried out with the Wilcoxon test. The SPSS version 20.0 statistical package was used in the analysis. Results: The mean value of the presurgical keratometry was 46 diopters (Dp), at the third month and one year after crosslinking it was 44.31 and 44.01 Dp respectively; the reduction in keratometry was 1.69 ± 0.99 Dp (p <0.05) at 3 months after surgery, while that of one year was 1.99 ± 0.9 Dp (p <0.05). The mean reduction in the pachymetry was 12.47 ± 5.85 um (p <0.05), after one year, the pachymetric values are similar to the presurgical ones (p> 0.05). The axis of the corneal cylinder did not show significant changes in the postoperative period. The mean being 4.6 ± 2.64 degrees at the third month and 3.93 ± 2.31 at one year after surgery, both statistically not significant. Conclusions: Crosslinking treatment is an effective alternative to stop the progression of corneal ectasias secondary to LASIK refractive surgery, achieving stabilization of keratometry and pachymetry within the first year of the postoperative period.
