Introduction: Eye pain is one of the most frequent symptoms in patients who come for an ophthalmological appointment, which is why it is important to take into consideration the different pathologies that may be associated with this illness. Objectives: To carry out a review about the types of eye pain that we can identify and the most frequent pathologies associated with each of them.Development: The V cranial nerve is in charge of providing sensitive innervation to the structures of the face and, among them, to the eyeball. Therefore, the response to a noxa in the ocular tissues themselves as neighboring structures can cause pain. It is important to recognize the characteristics of the pain, the limitation that it produces in the patient life and the ocular signs that we can find during the evaluation in order to reach a correct diagnosis and provide the patient with adequate treatment. Conclusions: It is very interesting to study the pathologies that can cause eye pain, and that sometimes represents a challenge in its treatment. For this reason, it is necessary to approach the patient in a comprehensive way, carrying out a detailed examination and also counting on joint evaluation with other specialties that are related to the field of eye pain.
