Covid-19Abstract
COVID – 19 was challenging for health institutions, therefore it is necessary to identify an early warning scoring system to predict an adverse outcome in patients with COVID – 19 admitted in emergency department. Our aim was to obtain evidence to support the use of the early warning score (NEWS) to identify patients at risk of clinical deterioration. We conducted a retrospective observational study with 222 patients admitted for emergency department with COVID – 19 the NEWS score was analyzed to verify the correlation with mortality and ICU requirement. 48.6% obtained a high-risk score, where 10.2% died, 25.9% were admitted to the ICU. The NEWS scale is based on measurable parameters from triage, however; No correlation was found with the outcome or ICU requirement, since there are other factors that contribute to the worse clinical outcome of patients with COVID-19.
