The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 infections forced the implementation of a series of preventive measures that have proven to be effective in mitigating the advance of COVID-19. These measures were based on clinical evidence,
and most were based on experiences from previous pandemics. Studies during the pandemic validated their results and made it possible to discourage some others of limited efficacy. In this article we develop the main preventive
measures and the evidence that supports them.
