The COVID-19 pandemic represents the biggest health crisis of the last century, with health, economic, and social repercussions, and in diverse human activities. The introduction of vaccines plays a crucial role in controlling COVID-19 and restoring normalcy to everyday life. It was necessary to resort to scientific technological advances and financial funds to promote scientific research in this field. In this way, vaccines from various platforms could be developed with a speed never seen before and, above all, effective and safe, using the scientific method and
the ethical principles that their development implies. In this paper we review the mechanisms of the vaccines developed against SARS-CoV-2, the evidence that supported their approvals, the evidence obtained from real-life studies, and the prospects for their use.
