Abstract

Introduction: The finding of gallbladder polyps is becoming common. This is a potentially malignant entity that requires
early detection and appropriate treatment, so periodic follow-up and surgery, when is indicated, should continue to be
promoted. Objective: Describe the histopathological and epidemiological characteristics of patients diagnosed with
gallbladder polyps at the Clínica Internacional Sede San Borja. Material and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study
was conducted from August 2020 to December 2023, with a unit of analysis being the electronic medical records of all
patients diagnosed with gallbladder polyps as reviewed in postoperative pathology reports. A consecutive collection of
all patients who met the selection criteria was performed, and subsequently, variables of age, sex, histopathological type,
multiple or single presentation, and polyp size were collected. Results: 7Out of 2462 cholecystectomies performed, 278
(11.3%) were diagnosed with GP. Of these, 90.6% were cholesterol polyps, 4.7% were adenomyomatous polyps, 3.4% were
adenomatous polyps, and 1.3% were adenoma-type polyps. The average age at diagnosis was 45.1 years. Conclusions: The
histological and epidemiological characteristics of GP cases presented at the Clínica Internacional Sede San Borja have an
average age of 45 years, slightly more frequent in women, predominantly cholesterol-type. The incidence of adenomatype polyps (neoplasms) was one case every 14 months
