Abstract

Objetive: To determine the risk factors associated with mortality of our intubated patients who were subjected to extended
proning for 2 to 7 days, as well as to know their epidemiological characteristics, mortality rate and survival curve. Materials
and methods: Observational, descriptive, analytical, retrospective study in patients with a diagnosis of COVID 19 pneumonia,
who were admitted to the COVID ICU from march 2020 to february 2022. To determine the factors associated with mortality,
the Cox proportional hazards model was used. Crude and adjusted hazard ratios (HR) and their respective 95% confidence
intervals (CI) were calculated. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to evaluate the survival curve. Results: A total of 185
patients were included, representing a random sample of a total of 337. 78.38% of the 185 patients were male, 21.62% were
female. The multivariate analysis of the mortality risk factors were: arterial hypertension (HRa: 1.87, 95% CI 1.098- 3.179,
p=0.021), PaO/Fi02 ratio before intubation and pronation cycle (HRa: 0.99, CI 95% 0.982- 0.999, p=0.024), duration of illness
(HRa 1.074, 95% CI 1.02- 1.131, p=0.007). Conclusions: The risk factors associated with increased mortality in this group were:
arterial hypertension, PaO2/fiO2 ratio before intubation and duration of illness. The one-year mortality incidence rate was
19.59%. While the mortality at 90 days was 35.68%.
