Objetive: To describe the technique, results, and complications of en bloc laser enucleation of the prostate with a thulium
laser implemented at the Private Clinic of Lima, Peru. Material and methods: OObservational, single-cohort, retrospective
study. The population and sample were 55 male patients who underwent en bloc laser enucleation of the prostate with a
thulium laser, from June 2023 to July 2024. The analysis was the Student T test, with a significance of 5%. Results: In the
presurgical characteristics, the average prostate volume was 91.36 cc, International Prostate Symptom Index was 29.73,
and quality of life was 5.05. The postoperative characteristics were an average surgical time of 82 minutes, 1.7 hospital days, and 2.3 catheter days. The main complication was hematuria with 12.7%, followed by urinary incontinence with 9.1%. When comparing the pre- and postoperative results, it was identified that the initial maximum flow was 6.6± 4 and at three months postoperatively it was 18.3, while the initial international prostate symptom index was 29.73 and at three months it was 5.4, and urinary incontinence at the beginning was present in 9.1% and at three months only in 1.8%. Conclusions: En bloc laser enucleation of the prostate with Thulium laser has proven to be a procedure with good results and minimal
short-term complications.
