Amblyopia is low vision in one or both eyes without any changes in the eyeball, but it also includes changes in contrast sensitivity, changes in spatial location and, above all, changes in brain function. The aim of this review is to provide an update on new approaches in the treatment of amblyopia. The use of patches continues to be the mainstay of treatment, but new schemes have emerged such as the use of transcranial magnetic stimulation with improvement in adults, binocular visual stimulation therapies (video games) with benefits, as well as the use of psychoactive and extrapyramidal drugs.
