What has been researched on psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis in Latin America?Visual and bibliometric analysis

Abstract

Psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory skin disease, and psoriatic arthritis, a form of arthritis linked to psoriasis, significantly impact the quality of life of those affected. Previously, the characteristics, gaps, and scientific pluralism of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis in Latin America had not been studied. The aim of this study was to assess the trends and research patterns on psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis in the region. A descriptive bibliometric study was conducted using Scopus as the source of information. For the statistical analysis, the Bibliometrix package of R was used. A total of 826 scientific documents were included, and the analysis period spanned 50 years. Most of the scientific output consisted of original articles (71.31%; n=589), followed by review articles
(17.56%; n=145). International collaboration was 40.92%. According to the keyword analysis, psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis have
been closely studied in conjunction with rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and antirheumatic agents. The progress of
research on psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis in Latin America has been modest but notable, both in terms of publication volume and citations achieved. Brazil and Argentina are the most prolific countries, and their research has had the greatest impact. There is a significant network of international collaboration, particularly with the United States and some European countries. Emerging trends include the use of omics for the exploration of precision medicine and the evaluation of clinical outcomes.
